Lanzarote

An island with 300 volcanic cones, black lava fields and an arid landscape also has many good beaches, some palm-filled valleys and an excellent infrastructure. Tourists are well catered for in the main resorts of Puerto del Carmen, Playa Blanca and Costa Teguise but increasingly smaller towns and villages are providing rural accommodation and independent travellers have most of the island to choose from. The island is a Unesco biosphere reserve and attracts sports enthusiasts to one of the best climates in the northern hemisphere.
